Annie Wersching, Renee Walker on 24, joins Madison Michele in the Hollywood 411 studio. Annie gives Maddie some insight on where 24 is heading, the Jack/Renee kiss & sex scene, and her real-life pregnancy.
Madison Michele: With me now, Annie Wersching who brilliantly played the role of Renee Walker on 24. Welcome to the show.
Annie Wersching: Thank you!
Madison Michele: You look a little different than the last time you were here and sat down with Chris [Harrison].
Annie Wersching: A little bit different, yes. *laughs*
Madison Michele: How far along are we? Congratulations.
Annie Wersching: We’re about halfway, halfway.
Madison Michele: How are you feeling?
Annie Wersching: Pretty good, the sickness is over and just getting used to growing.
Madison Michele: Okay. Are we finding out the sex, are we telling the sex?
Annie Wersching: We just found out, but we’re waiting.
Madison Michele: Ok. I can totally respect that. Alright, well congratulations, I wanted to just say how beautiful you look before we get into [the interview]. Renee Walker, what?! Why?! Everybody here is so bummed out.
Annie Wersching: I know, the reaction has been pretty intense. Fans are really upset and sad. I’ve known since the beginning, they came to me before we started this season. So I knew it was coming. But I’m very happy to not have to be able to keep it a secret anymore. Cause I shot this last episode at Christmas time. So I’ve been talking in circles about whether or not I’d live or die for a few months now. So I’m happy to be able to at least come clean.
Madison Michele: Yeah. And not only that you died, but it’s like what happened right before you died [Jack Bauer and Renee Walker sex scene]? What a way to go, right? At least you’re gonna go out with a bang, so to speak, both ways. Audiences are just so excited to see you two come together in a physical way I think.
Annie Wersching: Yeah, it was very cool. I almost wish, it’s kinda getting overshadowed by the fact that Renee died. I almost wish that [the sex scene] had it’s own special episode. Because that’s a pretty big deal that Jack Bauer finally got in the sheets.
Madison Michele: Yeah, first time we’ve seen him get in the sheets. And you feel like they both deserved it, because they’ve just had it so rough.
Annie Wersching: Yeah!
Madison Michele: Poor Jack, he finally gets together with you, and then you die and now he’s just even more tortured!
Annie Wersching: I know! And we shot a lot more of those scenes than actually aired, someone has footage of that somewhere.
Madison Michele: So do you think Jack is ever gonna recover from this? I assume the rest of the remaining episodes of 24 are gonna be about him avenging your death probably, right?
Annie Wersching: Yeah, absolutely. Fans are very sad to see Renee go, but I think they’ll be very happy to see what it turns Jack into. I mean obviously, he’s gonna go very “Jack Bauer”.
Madison Michele: How are they gonna wrap all of this up? This epic saga of 24. Can you give us… do you know what’s gonna happen?
Annie Wersching: I do know. I’ve read to the end. 24 finished filming completely on Friday. I said “I know I died, but can I still see the episodes?” *laughs*, I just wanted to know. And I’m a long time fan of the show, so…
Madison Michele: Well you don’t have to tell me how it ends, but do you feel it was a satisfying ending? Kind of like a fulfilling ending for all our 24 fans out there?
Annie Wersching: I would say it is, I would say it really bodes well for leading into a movie. Kinda has Jack on a warpath and… *stops talking and smiles*
Madison Michele: Yeah, yeah. A lot of places to go with that ending, right? As an actress, and obviously you’ve got this great new personal chapter to look forward to, but seriously: Renee is one of the most coolest characters on television and most badass woman. You’ve played her so authentically, you just did such a great job. She’s really cool. It’s just a pleasure to watch. It’s gonna be hard for you to say goodbye to her, right?
Annie Wersching: Thank you. Really hard. And I’ve said goodbye a couple of times – when I found out when she was gonna die, then when I found out what episode it was gonna happen in, then watching it the other night. Cause as an actor you know that roles are gonna come and go and you’re gonna go on to new shows, but for whatever reason I was very affected by.. I was just very saddened for her for some reason. I was like “Am I a crazy person? Why am I so sad for this make-believe person?” but umm.. Yeah, it was very sad for her. It was just such a great ride, fans took to her so easily and I feel like she had such a great impact in only a little less than two seasons. But to get a big 24 memorable death is… Those are the 24 moments that you’ll remember years down the road. Chapelle and Edgar and all that.
Madison Michele: Exactly. What a way to go. And you went out with Jack’s heart.
Annie Wersching: Yeah… *laughs*
Madison Michele: Alright. Well Annie, great having you in studio, thank you so much. We’re gonna miss you on the show.
Annie Wersching: Thank you, thanks for having me.
Madison Michele: Absolutely. And you can catch the remaining episodes of the final season of 24 Mondays at 9/8 central on FOX.
