After Vladimir Laitanan tells Renee his plan to kill Jack Bauer, she secretly tries to call him and warn him. Vladimir catches her before she can put the call through and chokes her.
Jack Bauer (undercover as Ernst Meier): I don’t wanna talk to you. Get him on the phone or I drive away. Now.
Vladimir Laitanan: (phone rings) Yes?
Lugo Elson: Meier is here. He won’t transfer the money until he speaks with you first.
Vladimir Laitanan: Put him on.
Jack Bauer: This is Meier.
Vladimir Laitanan: Yes, Mr. Meier. What’s the problem?
Jack Bauer: After you get your money, how long till I get my information?
Vladimir Laitanan: Not very long; I just have to make a few calls. No more than an hour.
Jack Bauer: Where is Renee?
Vladimir Laitanan: She’s busy.
Jack Bauer: I would like to talk to her.
Vladimir Laitanan: You can see her when you get here. We have nothing more to discuss until the money’s in place. Now, get Lugo on the phone.
Jack Bauer: Fine.
Lugo Elson: Go ahead.
Vladimir Laitanan: Once the money is confirmed into our account, you know what to do.
Lugo Elson: Yes. (hangs up)
Jack Bauer: I need your account number. I’m transferring the money through multiple accounts so it can’t be traced. This will take a moment.
Lugo Elson: We’ll wait.
Renee Walker: Is it done?
Vladimir Laitanan: Not yet.
Renee Walker: My partner’s good for the money, Vladimir. You should be making calls, tracking down the rods.
Vladimir Laitanan: I’m not going to make any calls, ’cause there isn’t going to be any deal with your partner.
Renee Walker: What are you talking about?
Vladimir Laitanan: Once we have the money… it’s over. We don’t need him anymore. And we’ll be five million dollars richer.
Renee Walker: You son of a bitch.
Vladimir Laitanan: Hey, I’m not a fool, Renee. I’m not about to get involved with the kind of people who traffic in nuclear arms.
Renee Walker: Okay, Vladimir, listen, you can’t do this.
Vladimir Laitanan: WHy? This man mean something to you?
Renee Walker: No, but I worked for more than a year to make this deal. I’m not just going to let it go because you don’t have the guts to see it through.
Vladimir Laitanan: Hey, this isn’t about guts. This is about being smart.
Renee Walker: Really? Is it smart to keep selling small arms for the rest of your life? I bring you the score of a lifetime, and you just piss it away? For what — for five million dollars? How long is that going to last you?
Vladimir Laitanan: Long enough.
Renee Walker: You’re more than all this. I know it. It’s why I brought this deal to you. We can do this. Together. Once we’ve made the deal and we have the money, we can be together. We could start over. Make our own moves. But I need my buyer. Alive.
Vladimir Laitanan: Sorry. This is the way I want it. You’ll see, it’s for the best. What are you doing?
Renee Walker: Making a call.
Vladimir Laitanan: Put down the phone. I said put it down!
* Vladimir takes the cell phone and grabs Renee by the neck, throwing her to the couch and choking her *
Vladimir Laitanan: Don’t ever go against me! Renee, you should know that by now. Okay?!
Lugo Elson: How much longer?
Jack Bauer: It’s almost done. There. The money’s in your account.
Lugo Elson: Thank you, Mr. Meier.
* Lugo’s men prepare to shoot Jack Bauer, but CTU Agent Cole Ortiz snipes them. Jack kicks Lugo and slams his head into the car *
Jack Bauer: Drop the weapon. Now! Drop it! You really think I’m that stupid? That I’d come here alone? Call your man. Do it! (Lugo dials Vladimir’s number) Give me the phone.
Vladimir Laitanan: (phone ringing) I see we have the money. Is Meier dead?
Jack Bauer: Not exactly, but I’ve just taken out three of your men, and I’m ready to take out the fourth.
Vladimir Laitanan: Meier.
Jack Bauer: You really think you can roll me for five million dollars? Where’s Renee?
Vladimir Laitanan: She’s right here. She’s fine.
Jack Bauer: I want proof now!
Vladimir Laitanan: Say something to your partner.
Renee Walker: Meier, are you okay?
Vladimir Laitanan: Satisfied?
Jack Bauer: Renee told me you were ready to take your organization to the next level. Apparently, she was wrong.
Vladimir Laitanan: Not necessarily, I’m willing to reconsider the situation.
Jack Bauer: The only thing you should consider yourself is lucky that I still want this deal to happen. Otherwise, you’d be dead. You try something like this again, we’re going to war, and that’s the last thing you want.
Vladimir Laitanan: Let me talk to my man.
Jack Bauer: Fine.
Lugo Elson: Yes?
Vladimir Laitanan: Bring him back here.
Lugo Elson: Are you sure?
Vladimir Laitanan: Yeah.
